I Can't Explain

Wow, I just absolutely love this song! The sheer number of covers speaks for itself, being six or seven complete ones, and a few samplings here and there. Well this song was written by Who lead and rhythm guitarist, and played a 12-string on this song, Pete Townshed. It was released as a single in December of 1964 for the US, and January of 1965 in the UK, which I though weird because they're a British band, you'd think that it'd come out first in the originating country, apparently not. Pete stated that the thoughts process behind the song came from the Kink's, All Day and All of The Night, and he wrote it when he was eighteen, very cool. The lyrical work is pure genius! Very simple, yet very catchy and meaningful, this song's about the feeling that you get when you see the perfect girl and your heart jumps a little, when you get goosebumps from hearing her speak, the lustful first kiss that pulls out your stomach and tosses it on the ground a little. This song's about new romance and how it encompasses your life. See Mr.Elkin? Not a Scorpions song, oh, wait...

To Be With You In Heaven

Alright! My latest favourite song, from the German heavy metal band, the Scorpions! Now when I did some research about this song, I was super disappointed! This song never reached any top tracks or subtle praises, but what it has reached, is the top of my list of track favourites, which in all honesty, is not much, but this is just a fantastic song! Now the first thing you need to know about this song is that it was released on Crazy World, in 1990, meaning that it's still fairly recent. Crazy World is considered the last of the classic Scorpions albums, why? Simply because it's the last album to feature Francis Buchholz, the bassist in the classic lineup. Now I find the whole so be quite attractive, but what really appeals to me is the vocal work. The guitar's great, classic Rudolph Schenker and Matthias Jabs lead and rhythm work, bass work is great, creates a lovely power feel in the main riff, and the drums are heavy and blunt, which I love to hear. The vocal work is just great though, the smooth vocal work on the chorus contrasts beautifully with the verse and bridge, not to mention the lyrics, which don't speak "stalker" to me, I see it as just plain lust and longing. I've never been one for songs about heaven and hell, but this one just speaks to me, I hope you enjoy.

Believe in Love

So the Scorpions are officially my favourite band, and this song is just exquisite. The way they contrast the intro, verse, and chorus is one thing that many bands unsuccessfully attempt to succeed in, but this song has exhibited that the Scorpions can do this style flawlessly. Believe in Love was released in 1988, on Savage Amusement, love that album title, and is a pretty standard Scorpions song, lyrics by Klaus Meine (vocalist), music by Rudolph Schenker (rhythm/lead guitarist). If you enjoy soft metal, then this song is the epitome of metal love songs, and Schenker does a fabulous job with the lead, I just love the sound. If you concern yourself with the meaning, it's pretty simple, love is worth pursuing, and maybe you can achieve that happiness that most spend their entire lives searching for, that's my take.

The Zoo

I thought about doing a post by a different artist, but I just got a new Scorpions album, and I couldn't resist. The Zoo, in my opinion, one of Scorpion's best. Though it never made it far on the charts, this song has depth and is very well written. Written by Rudolph Schenker(guitarist) and Klaus Meine(lead vocalist) , The Zoo was released in Scorpion's 1980 album, Animal Magnetism. Though it was never very popular, The Zoo is one of Scorpion's most acclaimed songs, and contains many appealing factors. The tempo of the song is heavy and ominous, giving it a supernatural and deadly feel. The guitar riffs are of notable factor in this song, being heavy and jagged, but at the same time melodic, catchy, and smooth. A very nice guitar solo in contained within it, being notably appealing to the most sensitive of ears, and powerful enough for the rockers and metalheads. This song is about a date, to put it simply, though it's not an ordinary date. It's a very cynical date, they walk along, and notice the streets around them to be a zoo, filled with wild and savage beasts, intent on demise. Yet the pair walk onward, feeding upon the misery of others. This might be a little dark of an interpretation, but hey, everyone's entitled to their own opinions.

Coast To Coast

Instead of my usual vocal songs, I'm going with instrumental this time. I've recently stumbled across this song after not hearing it for a while, and I must say, it's intoxicating. the delicate smooth sensation is one like no other. It's a jam based song, but it does have the feeling of predetermined factors and ideas. The song starts out with a pair of distorted guitars, and shifts toward the fantastic with the addition of bass, drums, and later, a third guitar which brings the whole thing together. I posted a studio version here because I try and give the original, but I must say, the live versions are fantastic, and have that great messy feel to them. This song is the sixth studio album by Scorpions, Lovedrive, and it was released in 1979. This album marks entrance of the classic Scorpions feel that we know today, and this song in particular, is the feel that they kept going on later in their career.

No One Like You

This has to be my favorite Scorpions song of all time... The intro itself sends me into a rock n' roll coma, I have a thing for songs that go straight into a solo, but this is just the tops, the combination of the heavy drums and the high end guitar solo is just fantastic, and it really sets the stage for this fantastic song. To those of you who read this and decide not to listen to it, you're making perhaps the largest mistake you've ever made, for this song is a classic, and should not be forgotten. Written by the German metal band, Scorpions, this song was released on their eighth studio album, Blackout. Blackout was released in 1982, and this song reached number one on the US Billboards for rock tracks. This song was originally written in German, but I can't find the original anywhere, and, as a result of the translation, a lot of the song's meaning is lost, which is a little disappointing. But yeah! Great song, please listen.
